The Coalition of Resistance is organising a European conference against Austerity, Cuts and Privatisation, and in defence of the Welfare State on Saturday 1st October in London.
In Britain, the appeal for the conference is supported by Tony Benn, Len McCluskey (Unite General Secretary), Bob Crow (RMT General Secretary), John McDonnell MP, Jeremy Corbyn MP, Caoline Lucas MP, Jeremy Dear, NUJ General Secretary, Ken Loach, Kate Hudson, Imran Khan (the People’s Charter), Chris Bambery (Secretary Right to Work campaign), Clare Solomon (President ULU Students Union) and Lee Jasper BARAC.
The Coalition of Resistance is currently approaching trade-unions, social movements and progressive organisations in other countries to join with us in the preparation for this conference, and planning for a common response.
We hope that this conference will be a step towards co-ordinating the resistance by agreeing to European-wide action against Austerity and in Defence of our Welfare State. In every country in Europe, all the social gains of the post war period are now threatened under the pretext of having to repay the debt incurred in bailing out banks in 2008. There is already resistance in many countries in Europe. But we need to learn from each others’ experiences and work towards a co-ordinated resistance across Europe and beyond.

I just love the picture of the Parthenon draped in Red Flags. Though maybe they should have put North Africa before Europe in the fabulous logo. The Greeks do seem to have started something in the past few years.
Or was it in the 5th century BC?
March 26th. London. Be there

Brilliant. Finally people are recognising that it is we need a pan-European focus. But the conference must be in Brussels so that it attracts people from across the continent. This is just a geographical concern. Plus it would have a strong attendance by Belgian trade unions, which, again geographically, are crucial in putting pressure on the EU institutions.
Brilliant. However, it is a shame that there is no mention of the EU’s role in imposing these austerity measures on the peoples of Europe.
On a separate issue, the otherwise magnificent picture has been modified to exclude the KKE (Communist Party) logo, as is seen in the original photos.
Yes, you’re right I’ve replaced it with the unadulterated original image
Well spotted Julian. We do not want to frighten the horses do we Admin?
I’ve replaced it with the unadulterated original image, the perils of nicking images off google is that sometimes you get dodgy ones. I hope this one will reassure you that we are not concerned with scaring horses
The Tory Conference is in Manchester on the same day
Thank you admin. Nothing against horses myself you understand.
Unless of course one is charging at us carrying a police officer…….
Cheers
