Model Resolution

This branch welcomes the resolutions at the TUC Conference to coordinate strikes and protests by public sector workers in defence of jobs, pay and conditions.

We believe that there needs to be a national campaign to unite public sector workers and service users to:

  • Defend jobs, wages, pensions and services
  • Win the ideological battle that the cuts are unnecessary and will lead to a worsening of the economy, and that the privatisation of public services will destroy the ethos of welfare and the welfare state itself.
  • Fight rising unemployment and the casualisation of labour.

We note that the Coalition of Resistance statement that has been launched by some of the best known trade unionists and campaigners in Britain, including Tony Benn, and the leaders of public sector unions such as Mark Serwotka of PCS and Bob Crow of the RMT, is an excellent strategy for uniting strikes and protests against the cuts.

We resolve to affiliate to the Coalition of Resistance (www.coalitionofresistance.org.uk) and to encourage other branches to do the same. We further resolve to hold a Coalition of Resistance rally at the earliest opportunity to initiate the local unity of strikes and campaigns against the cuts.
