Both the Conservatives and Labour have become too big to fail. And as evidenced by the bedroom tax of the former and the retrospective sanctions endorsed by the latter, both parties are thus free to be mighty with the weak and meek with the mighty.
So while a broad movement against austerity is definitely essential, unless the people’s assembly is willing to consider the creation of fresh political parties and the destruction of the old, then it is sadly little more than a band-aid on a bullet wound.
Today, the magnitude of required change is so great that we cannot wait for the elite to decide if and when to grudgingly bequeath us inclusion under their system; we need to leach out every vestige of the elite and build something better, something that matters, now.
The labour party is well grounded in history and has its strong links with the Trade Union Movement. I honesty think it is doing its best in a hugely difficult and complicated situation. It can’t do anything unless it is in power so has to tread carefully so as to get as many votes as possible. However there also needs to be left leaning groups and other progressive groups to put pressure on Labour to fulfil Labour objectives when they do get power and to fight Tory policies and stand up for the ordinary citizen against this right wing onslaught. A People’s Assembly would fulfil that role. Strong left wing parties cannot come to power in this country at this time in history.
Great work, but the people need to think bigger than a single event months from now.
People’s Assembly has to be something like in which our Parliamentary [mis]representatives do their scheming.
It has to be a “Permanent People’s Assembly”, a more or less 24/7 event— just like our [mis]representatives enjoy at our expense.
Start with lobbying academic institutions to allow sessions of the Assembly to happen in their class rooms (that is how the Webbs got the London School of Economics going (in rooms free of charge— although they were provided by the London Chamber of Commerce).
But this project is easily scalable. It could start as a series of coordinated meetups (www.meetup.com) all over the country. It should also have a kind of “adult education” arm (mainly in economic literacy as a defense against being bamboozled by establishment economists).
PS. I am 76 and quite impatient with timid visions.
We Need Peoples Action to bring About Revolutionary Change which will
End the System Peacefully and Give Decent Government and Policies in
Place of Diabolical MisRule and Wrecked Public Services
Forget the State Propaganda and Mind Numbing on TV it is Real Reality which Matters
We need to analyse the dynamics of global finance capital and the practicalities of local, national and international class struggle. How to organise and can we resist the forces of global governance if we try and follow a nationalist strategy. We need a united left front like the Front de Gauche, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, Pierre Laurent, the EL and GUE/NGL as A coalition of left parties across Europe and Scandinavia.
International trade law set by the WTO that dictate the privatisation and marketization of public services. The General Agreement on Trade in Services (Gats) article 1.3 says the WTO can rule on services provided on a “commercial basis” or those supplied “in competition with one or more service suppliers.” A WTO committee has argued for an interpretation that could bring all public services under GATS and be settled by a WTO disputes panel. These WTO agreements also call for universal public services to break up trade restrictive public-provider monopolies and substitute commercial competition. WTO rules already require member states to apply such rules to the telecom industry and the WTO secretariat calls for similar tests to apply across all public services including health care. Gats article 6.4 will force governments to open up their public services to foreign investors and markets. It requires member states to show that they are not employing trade-restrictive policies and outlaws the use of anti-competitive non-market mechanisms – making national governments’ domestic policies subject to WTO rules. As a result Britain is subject to the neoliberal economic agenda set by the diktat of global governance of the WTO, IMF and World Bank based in the USA.
BROKEN BRITAIN UNDER TORIES – MONETARY DECLINE STARTED IN 1909 BY POWER GRABBERS
Under the premiership of Asquith the beginning s of the Welfare State began by introducing State Retirement Pension .Between 2 shillings and 5 were promised to working men retiring at the age of 70 although the life expectancy was 48 .There was 10 working men to each retirement .Politicians being as they are today the Electorate were promised even more goodies in exchange for votes ,Family Allowance ,National Insurance and the National Health Service .But because Politicians are greedy for Power and the Gravy Train no particular party was prepared to curb these freebies making them unpopular .So today Britain is Bust we were £700 Billion in Debt in 2010 and its rising .
Things will get worse Successive Governments and their self interest caused this situation hence no opposition – but Osborne is now rubbing it in by Giving to the Rich and making the poorer suffer the most ,those are the actions of a spoilt child . Time we had a total change of Policy makers we have been sold down the river by Labour & Tories. http://www.brokenbritainundertories.com
BROKEN BRITAIN UNDER TORIES – OPINION –WHOS OPINION ?
Philip Hammond Minister for War was a prime example yesterday when he stated “Public opinion would not be with us” since when has he been a collective voice of the Public and since when has our opinion mattered at all .There have been numerous Marchs ,Protests ,Petitions and written complaints to Politicians and over many issues all to no avail .Hammond don’t use our name to either promote or justify any of your issues it totally misleads others into thinking a member of the Public has given voice to something of the Governments making. http://www.brokenbritainundertories.com
Revolutionary Change in the Political Situation is Long Overdue
An Ending to the Domination of Politics by People with More Money
than Compassion or Common Sense Toeing the Party Line and the Capitalist
Tax the Rich Hands Off The Poor
The Underdog ( Poor and Vulnerable ) has been too Easily trampled on in this Country.
An End to All Oppressive Sanctions Degrading Bureaucracy and Assessments together with an Increase in Welfare Benefit Levels is what is Needed .
Crisis Grants instead of ” Loans ” .
All the Con Dem Wrecking of the Welfare System under their Iniquitious ” Reforms ” whilst giving Tax Breaks to Millionaires must be Opposed .
Something to Restore Human Dignity instead of National Socialist Regime Style Degradation .
The Poor and Vulnerable Need No Lessons in Austerity from Politicians with House Worth over £500,000 Pounds and Diabolically High Salaries.
Capitalism needs abolishing. The solution to capitalism in my opinion is anarchism, which has been the solution for thousands of years. Also Communalism is a another alternative which means, the abolition of markets and money.
