Solidarity with the pensions strike: 30 June

The Con-Dem Government has raised the stakes in the public-sector pensions strike this Thursday by denouncing the unions taking action, encouraging people to scab, and threatening new anti-union laws.

The attack on public-sector pensions amounts to a massive wage cut. Low-paid workers on less than £20,000 a year will be paying £500 more in pension contributions, working for an extra year, and then losing thousands on their retirement payouts.

The Con-Dem package is: pay more, work longer, get less. It amounts to tens of thousands being screwed out of every public-sector worker in order to pay for bank bailouts and avoid taxing the rich.

That is why every anti-cuts activist should support the strike. We need maximum unity, numbers, and impact this Thursday. Everyone who can should join the picket-lines and demos.

London CoR activists should try and be at Lincoln’s Inn Fields from 10am onwards to help distribute placards, broadsheets, and postcards. The London demo is set to move off around 11.30am for a march on Parliament and a rally at Central Hall.

Local marches and rallies have been organised in the following towns and cities:

Register for the national conference: 9 July

The Coalition of Resistance National Members and Delegates Conference takes place on Saturday 9 July, 10am-5pm, at the University of London Union, Malet Street, London, WC1E (nearest station: Euston).

Speakers include: Mark Serwotka, PCS General Secretary, Wendy Savage, Co-chair, Keep Our NHS Public, John McDonnell MP, Clare Solomon, ULU President, Zita Holbourne, BARAC Joint Chair, Mehdi Hasan, New Statesman, and Lindsey German, Stop the War.

The conference will debate resolutions, re-elect the National Council, and involve workshop-based discussions on economics, the NHS, education, disability care, work and the unions, and international solidarity.

All CoR supporters should register for the conference and encourage union branches, student unions, anti-cuts groups, and campaign groups to send representatives. We need a big, representative conference to debate the way forward after 30 June.
