We’ve just learned that the Government is planning to let big business profit from blood donations.
It’s almost unbelievable – almost.
Up and down the country, thousands of men and woman give blood each week. They don’t do it for selfish reasons. They do it for friends, neighbours – and for people they will never know. By giving blood they do something amazing and save countless lives.
Anyone who has either needed blood, or has a loved one who has, will know that feeling of gratitude.
But this Government doesn’t care about that selflessness – that’s why they’re planning to literally privatise your blood. By letting big business marketise blood donations, the Tories will shatter the virtuous link between donors and recipients.
We can’t allow this to happen – we need to rally around a simple but profound message: Our blood is not for sale.
In response to these plans we’re launching a national petition – be one of the first on it. Sign our petition and demand that David Cameron steps in and stops this dangerous plan:

Chances are that if you haven’t benefited from someone else’s amazing generosity, someone you know and love has. Often, we owe our loved ones’ very survival to a blood donation from a complete stranger.
Blood donors give blood so that doctors and surgeons are able to save lives. They don’t give blood so that private corporations can make a profit.
We are talking about life and death, about an incredible selfless act. Money and profit margins have no place in this transaction.
This is a step too far. We cannot allow this to happen.
We need you to act now. Act for yourself. Act for a loved one. We are all under threat if the Tories can get away with this – please sign our petition now:

Donated blood has to be collected, processed, stored, and then distributed.
That all costs money – and I’d rather see an efficient private company doing it, and doing it well, for lower total cost (and making a profit out of it too, coz that’s what companies do!) than have it in the hands of the bureucratic jobsworths who infest the public sector and care more about their gold plated pensions than delivering the taxpayer with value for money and getting the job done.
Because we know all private companies are efficient. And would never cut corners. And never manipulate supplies to squeeze prices up. And never pay themselves over-inflated pensions. And never rort the taxpayer. Never.
Oh my goodness, really, you said that? Guessing you’re not a donor or had relative in need? Just a vampire then?
Oh, I can’t leave it at that, pay for blood and you pay the poorest and least able to replenish the most vital of substances, probably, the most diseased as why do you think they will be selling?! When you ask for money to sell it, of course there must be money to buy it! When you embrace altruism in giving you must reciprocate that! Yes, blood donation costs for collection, costs at receivership and at stages in between, but that is called the NHS, for which we pay our taxes and happily so! Oh gosh Mr Pete Grove, live with yourself, sure as hell no-one I know would, though in a crisis, not knowing your views, you can have a bit of my B Neg blood!
So you would rather see a company make a profit rather than the Blood transfusion benefit from any savings. I for one will not donate my blood so that some over stuffed overpaid ex banker can make a profit out of other peoples free donations of blood. You are either very immature or amasingly naive, the Rail Companies are run by Private companies and make a profit, they are also subsidised by the taxpayer, and yet we still have one of the worst public transport systems in Europe. Until a previous tory government sold of the CEGB the Nationalised Electricity Supplier we had the most efficient supplier in Europe. After nationalisation when the CEGB was broken up and sold well below its market worth to Thatcher’s friends it ended up being owned by the French, the Germans, the USA and the Italians. All these companies ended up owning an asset paid for by the taxpayers, but according to your misguided view, it is perfectly acceptable to in reality steal something belonging to the taxpayer in order to allow a private company make a profit. It is no wonder this country is in a mess, you know the price of everything and the value of nothing
not worthy of comment you will be the first to die when you can not afford to pay
The gobsmacking mega tragedy of our times is that the views as expressed by Pete above sadly are worthy of our attention. Because such manic grasping ignorance is actually in Government. I know, I know. I cannot take it in myself. It’s so fecking 1984 I would like to pretend the post is from admin just trying to wind us up.
Sadly I fear not. Be in no doubt, the feckers would privatise their own dead grannies body and sell it off, bit by bit, if they could. I think you will find the same mind (I am being generous) spends the rest of it’s time on TV gambling channels in the wee hours. Or it’s equivalent. Grasping for a quick buck. Knowing the cost of absolutely everything but the value of nothing.
What heinous monsters our right wing Island has created. Sadly we have to live amongst them.
In fact when they privatised water I jokingly asked why stop there? Why not privatise the very air we breathe. It was only a joke Cameron. To think he is the old ‘dear’ who says the left have no humour. Christ he is better at taking the pxxx than I am. Feck him.
Please everybody. Keep asking the question I do. Name one privatisation. Just the one. That worked? Even in their terms. Let alone for the consumer, taxpayer or god forbid worker. From Gas to Electric to BT to Rail to Water….on and on. Just tell me of somebody who is laughing apart from the fecking grasping shareholders.
I have an open mind but still have yet to receive an answer to that one.
Waste of time anyway. Also never forget the self same buggers control the media we watch, listen to, and read.
Nice slice of ‘Grannie pie’ anybody?
I have B Neg blood, quite rare they say, is mine worth more than yours Pete? What you say, start an auction? And I have rare antibodies as had this Australian liver disease as a child and overcame it. How much is mine up to now? Jeez, some things you do not sell, blood, organs, social housing, utilities, your very fecking soul! Don’t forget to vote tomorrow folks!
