Action for ESOL brought together 500 students and teachers from colleges all over London in a vibrant, noisy protest against cuts to ESOL funding – held outside Westminster at lunchtime, with massive teach-out, theatre workshops, outdoor games and singing lessons.
The action showed the determination of the students, their tutors and refugee organisations across the country not to take this cut without a fight.
Refugees and students gathered round the megaphone to talk about why they need to learn English and how ESOL classes change their lives, before marching together to Downing Street to hand in the Save ESOL petition with 20,000 signatures, including Noam Chomsky, Ken Loach and Ken Livingstone.

Constitutional Protection for the Vulnerable upon Incapacity Benefit and a ” Work Capability Assessment ” For Ivory Tower Politicians
It is Absolutely Appalling that Amidst a Terrible Economic Crisis with the Gulf between Rich and Poor as it is, And the Rising Cost of Existing that Those on Incapacity Benefit can be Put through the Oppressive Strain of a ” Work Capability Assessment ” Carried Out by a Private Company.
Incapacity Benefit should be Increased and those on Incapacity Benefit should have Constitutional Protection Not Bureaucratic Oppression .
A Charitable Caring Society is Better than a Dehumanised Capitalist Society .
