Season’s Greetings! Support Coalition of Resistance in 2013

December 21, 2012

This year has seen an escalation in the attack to our services from the government – from privatisation of the NHS and closing of hospitals to attacks on benefits, the unemployed and the disabled. Thousands of schools are being turned into academies and this year’s university students are the first to pay the massive hike in fees.

Unemployment is high and tens of thousands continue to lose their jobs. Each year, around 20,000 more people aged 65 or over in England and Wales die in winter months than in other months. This will only worsen due to the cuts and energy price rises.

The last few months has also seen a resurgence in the anti-austerity movement. From the massive TUC demo on 20 October with hundreds of thousands marching against austerity to the European TUC day of action which saw action take place in 23 countries across Europe to the 10,000 strong demonstration in Lewisham to save the local hospital.

Now more than ever we need to build a united movement which can stop this government in its tracks. There’s lots planned for next year. A demonstration in defence of the NHS is being discussed for early next year. Coalition of Resistance will be organising a People’s Assembly on Saturday 1 June where we aim to bring together thousands of activists and trade unionists from across the country as a springboard for further action. More details will be available soon.

But we need to increase our regular income if we are to continue campaigning. Please help support the work of Coalition of Resistance by making a regular donation. Supporters now have the ability to set up a regular monthly donation via our website.

Below is just a snap-shot of some expenses we face:

Every placard we produce costs £1 – we give thousands out for free on demonstrations.
We produced 80,000 leaflets, 2,000 posters and 15,000 stickers advertising the TUC demonstration on 20 October, which cost us more than £2,500.
The average cost of hiring a venue for a rally or public meeting is £1,500 for an evening.
Our website costs £100 per month.
We are working to move to a new database to support local activity by putting activists in touch with each other in the same area.
We need to obtain an office in Central London and fund a full-time worker which can help develop local groups.
Travelling across the country to speak at meetings costs hundreds of pounds each month.

We hope that during the holidays you get a chance to rest and come into 2013 ready to take the movement to a new level! See you next year.

In solidarity,

Sam Fairbairn
Secretary, Coalition of Resistance

Excess Strain upon Poor Jobseekers Allowance Claimiants is Not the Answer

to Jobseekers Allowance Claimiants having a Position of Employment that Pays a Living

Wage and which they can Travel to without having to spend a Fortune to get to.

I am Appalled to Hear that from Next Year 2013 Jobseekers Allowance Claimants will have their Applications Remotely Monitored by Government.

This Smacks of a Surveillance State and a Breach of Human Rights.

Rebuilding the Fishing Industry Agriculture and other Industries would do More to Help together with a Nationalised Railway Service Offering Positions of Employment

For Life with a Pension as Well together with Massively Cost Reduced Railway Fares and Bus Fares .

Jobseekers Allowance Claimants have a Right to be Treated with Human Dignity .
