The Coalition of Resistance National Organising Conference will be part of organising the fightback and proposing an alternative solution to the deep economic crisis that is destroying the lives of millions.

Across Europe governments are foisting the same austerity measures onto the backs of working people. In Greece, Spain, France and elsewhere there have been large scale strike movements opposing these cuts.

The conference will hear speakers from those struggles and from delegates from the anti-cuts and anti-privatisation groups springing up in this country. There will be workshops and the opportunity for all to have their voices heard.

There will be speakers from local anti-cuts groups from around the country. The National Secretary of the French railway unions will report on the recent strike wave there. And there will be a fraternal speaker from the People’s Charter.

The conference will discuss a plan of action and will elect a National steering committee.

Speakers include

Billy Bragg, Caroline Lucas MP, Tony Benn, Paul Mackney, Bob Crow, Mark Serwotka PCS, Dr Jacky Davis, Professor Colin Leys, Dot Gibson, Zita Holbourne, Ozlem Onaran, Derek Wall, Lindsey German, Chris Baugh, Laurie Penny, John Hilary, Lowkey and many others.

I wish to sign up. I have been inspired by Tony Benn to act on what I really care about and what really matters. This is the only credible, and perhaps sensible thing I have found that is happening in response to a government I feel is acting inhumanely.

Please sign me up. Need an outlet to share thoughts and ideas with others, particularly responsibility to children and young people and their involvement. Got many things brewing in my head and need to turn this in to positive action!

I registered in September (at Caledonian Road). However, I’m concerned to see there’s still no clear agenda for the conference and you seem to have backed away from the promise to provide advance info on workshops etc. If this exercise is to be worthwhile it has to lead to moves to formulate a serious radical alternative, as billed in the original statement. If it’s just going to be a long rant of denunciation of the cuts – or a rehash of tired Keynesian demands for a public spending boost – it will be a waste of time.

I have fought in left field politics since I came out in 1974. I was secretary of Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners in 1984. I had become despondent after the second, 93-4, miners defeat. The conference brought me back to life and I am so energised by it. I feel sad tonight though that there hasn’t been a social event where we can share the experience. I am left feeling isolated.

i wish to attend the november event, we have met in the past during the peoples march for jobs and at many other events.
im fighting the dwp at the moment and the rediculous legal system that prevents unemployed home owners from accessing legal aid –
i wish to be fully active in the resistance against the cuts, i lived through the winter of discontent, the 3 day week and the miners strike – these cuts are going to take us all the way back to the poor law days.. we need the spirit of Ned Ludd to our souls against this cruel and incipid war on the poor, elderley, sick, and the workers

Anyone having a ‘mare trying to buy tickets? The link from the email isn’t working and from this page Paypal won’t let me pay with debit/credit card.

Is the Billy Bragg who is fronting your conference the same person who was so enthusiastic about the coalition and about the Lib dems in particular? While he was extolling their virtues they were planning to ally with Cameron’ “they had so much in common with the Tories” or words to that effect according to a recently published lib Dem diary of the period. While they were openly preparing to reverse the Welfare State Billy was rejoicing [for example on the Andrew Neil Politics show]about their coalition. Perhaps you would like to ask him to justify this?

  14. Karl Thomas on November 23, 2010 at 19:23

looking forward to this. Hoping it’s going to be a productive and people are going to come away from it with the extra confidence and ideas we need to fightback effectively.
No ifs, no buts, no public spending cuts!
    see you Saturday comrades.

Just a quick note to say that all the attendees at the event on the Facebook page can be seen by clicking “guests” i.e if just one Facebook guest has left their default facebook security / privacy (i.e. none) then all can be seen by anyone. Doesn’t bother me but if it does bother anyone then advisable not to click the I will be attending button or register your interest in any other way.

  16. Phil Keefe on December 18, 2010 at 17:24

Well said. I’m amazed Bragg has manage to infiltrate the fight back against what he advocated in the election. His support for the LibDems was at the very best extremely naive. I really don’t want to hear from him about radicalism now. He should be hanging his head in shame and saying nothing but ‘I apologise’.
