Egyptian people show the power of mass resistance – build the TUC march for the Alternative – London March 26th

The people of Egypt have inspired the world. Their bravery and determination have removed a hated dictator whose personal wealth is estimated to be more that £50 billion. He kept the people of Egypt in abject poverty. Western governments were his biggest supporters.
Throughout the world the rich are getting richer and the rest left to suffer poverty and the destruction of basic services.
It is time to fight back and on March 26th we have to build the largest demonstration this country has seen.

This week is a week of Resistance please participate in the following events:

  • Monday 14th February Valentines Day Rally: We love our Public Services. Downing Street 5pm-7pm with Bob Crow, John McDonnell MP, Ruth Serwotka Steve Hart – sponsored by SERTUC and Unite (London and Eastern Region).

    Guys

The moment you acknowledge the £140 bn odd deficit the 77% of GDP national debt and come up with a credible suggestion yourselves that doesn’t involve tribal and luddite protectionism of your jobs will be the day people take you seriously.

Your lack of ability to confront this argument, your “crying wolf” of health and safety to defend jobs on the tube, your local council politicisation of the cuts

I respect your arguments on tax avoidance and fair pay.

However you must engage with the fact that the size of our state is unaffordable and failure to do anything about will lead to the road to ruin for our country

All the best with your marches but know that most of the population considers them immature whilst we shoulder the burden of the cuts and tax rises and pull together for the good of our country.

If you engaged in a productive dialogue on modernisation that acknowledged the dire situation we are in and the need to transform the country towards exports and the private sector, you’d have our respect once more.

“you’d have our respect once more.”
Our respect? Are you two people or one?
Maybe you should acknowledge the fact that the population don’t support cuts, want the banks to pay for the mess they’ve created, oppose student fees and don’t believe that massive redundancies in the public sector will improve the economy. There is no “productive dialogue” possible with right wing ideologues intent on using an economic crisis to enforce a massively destructive programme of cuts for which they have no mandate. Thanks but “we” are not interested in your “respect”.

Spot on admin. There is no productive dialogue possible with ‘right wing idealogues’ – as in Cameron and co. I do think however we shoot ourselves in the foot if we cannot discuss and challenge views here and out there. We need every voice with us. Put downs can be justified if we face an abusive right wing rant. Or if suspecting a Tory party hack. As it is though I thought the first post here was relatively polite. Even if the views expressed are about as wrong and ill thought through as it is possible to get.

How can I put this ‘Student Freespeaker?

The whole thrust of your thinking is akin to a doctor prescribing more Arsenic, for a man on his death bed dying of Arsenic poisoning. More of the same shit that got us in this mess in the first place.

We have had your unfettered right wing free market pill imposed on us in this island for the last 30 years. Tory, Labour and Liberal. All the time being told to work harder, be more efficient. Good times ‘tomorrow’ if you behave. Now that I call a bloody ‘Nanny state’. A nanny from a right wing hell.

Business and the city have never been less regulated. Seemingly not being subject to any basic morality as are most of we mortals. A free for all casino for the ‘haves’, casino’s built on the deprivation and poverty of the majority.

You are dishonest. I think you know the deficit is a fraction of the amount paid to bail out your ‘wealth makers’?. The banks and Hedge fund Managers. From their own greed. They have it all. Just keep gambling with our money, knowing even if they lose it we will prop up their lifestyles in Cannes and the slopes of Aspen. Caymen Island tax havens.

Can you not see they are taking the pxxx. Maybe you do not want to if it affects your bank balance too.

As for me. I look forward to the day when a 70 year woman on a criminally meagre state pension, struggling to stay warm in winter, can also look forward to such massive state bail outs.

May I politely decline your prescription and solution. I have been refusing such stuff now since 1979. Thatchers election. Just watching others get more sick in mind and body by the year. The next state of the US.

Like Egypt we have had our own 30 year dictatorship. Our Mubarak is obscene grasping spivs as in Philip Green and Murdoch. Plus Westminster that throws parties for them.

Thank you. I will have all the self respect and that of others, people with open eyes, hearts and wallets -on March 26th. Bloody waited a very long while for this one.

    Be there

TUC day of action…….is this going to have an impact. I have been an active union member for 30 years. My union’s oligarchy have consistently controlled and stopped any attempts to bring about real permanent progressive change. Readers of this sites articles agree that resistance is possible, why are wasting so much time on the TUC well ordered and disciplined march. On 29th April most of the country’s workers are on an enforced national strike. The tory grandees, the movers and shakers of the corporate thieves, the met, the right wing journalists who espouse backing of these unelected elites are all assembled adjacent to the square where students were kettled back in November. So lets use this day productively, lets kettle these bastards….anyone else coming to the royal kettle on 29th?

The Revolutionary Spirit shown by the People of Egypt
in Overthrowing the Tyrant Mubarak is in Contrast to
the Selfishness Slavishness and Complacency of much
    of British Society .

There Needs to be More Solidarity and Less Slavishness
and Solidarity for Peaceful Political Revolution through Mass Public Protest in the United Kingdom to
    Occur

Egypt and Tunisia have Shown the Way to Freedom
which is Not the Ivory Tower Clique in Westminster

  6. Mike Shaughnessy on February 15, 2011 at 22:22

I’ve been saying much the same thing. Vive La Revolution….

  7. Leon on February 16, 2011 at 23:59

Yes indeed. Just a thought though. Don’t we need most or many people with us for a revolution? As in Egypt? Bit of a way to go there me thinks comrades.

Last time I checked, only today, so many are still blaming anyone but the real criminals in the city etc.
The last govt, ‘greedy’ welfare recipients, immigration, the unions (Pythonesque I know) – even the bloody Icelandic volcano comes before the bastard bankers and Cameron and Clegg in their blame league.

The ‘Royal Kettle’ is a brilliant idea. In fact it may go some way to kick start some progressive change, if we had at least a few million behind it maybe.

I have many decades of experience in the union too though. Yes fighting the complacent union leadership who can sometimes be worse than the Coalition. Selling us out at every opportunity. I have also seen us mount campaigns and strikes neglecting to take people with us. No surprise at the result.

TUC day of action. Royal Kettle. Whatever. The lesson from Egypt and centuries of worker and people power is it takes unity. With a capital ‘U’.

A spring of discontent. I hope to god whatever we do unleashes wave after wave of strikes and protests the like of which this country has never seen.

None of us can do that alone. Or in our own passionate boiling ‘Royal Kettle’. Justified as that is. Alone such a protest will just give Murdoch more poison to sell.

Let me know when the barricades go up. If and when we have millions behind us I will come and build some myself.

Much work to be done yet me thinks before that day comes.
