Music meets comedy meets protest in this lively show and fundraiser for Brighton & Hove Women Against the Cuts. Britain’s foremost, award-winning jazz vocalist Claire Martin tops the bill, accompanied by guitar legend Jim Mullen.
Vocal Opposition! will be compered by local comedian Julie Jepson (“intelligent stand-up that is instantly engaging – truly fabulous” BBC) and features Brighton women’s a capella choir We-Bop, funky Community Quire Hullaballoo plus Raised Voices, a political street choir from London. Introduction by Guardian columnist, writer and journalist Polly Toynbee.
Brighton & Hove Women Against the Cuts (BHWAC) is a group of local women who have come together to take action against the coalition cuts. According to the Gender Audit of the Budget, women will bear the brunt of the austerity measures by nearly two thirds (Source: 2010, House of Commons Library). Cuts to women’s jobs, benefits and support services are reversing equality.
A self-financing group, BHWAC urgently need funds to continue their work.
